I’m probably not the only one that has been guilty of not being focused – physically being in one place while at the same time, mentally and emotionally I am someplace entirely different.
I know as a martial artist, there have been many times in my training that I have found myself just going thru the motions without really having my spirit present.
Then there have been other times when I’m fully focused on my training. That’s when great things happen. That’s when I can feel improvement.
I’m reminded of the quote that I once heard from Grandmaster Jhoon Rhee. He said “It’s not how many hours you put in, it’s how much you put in the hour”.
Sometimes we forget that the only way to improve on anything is “consistent, mindful repetition over time.” There are no shortcuts.
So whether you are training, cooking, studying, or selling, the next time you find yourself just going through the motions, take a moment to refocus. Make sure your intent is right and your spirit is present.
Good things will follow.
See you in class
